Britton: Get to know your Leader
Greetings, friends! I thought I would spend some time to write a little summary of myself so you can all get a little insight into who I am and what type of person is running this alliance. (be afraid.....be very afraid
)
To begin, ill talk about RL me. I am a 20 year old university student at the University of Western Ontario (in Canada). I am taking two degrees simultaneously; one in Medical Science and another in Classical Studies (ancient Greece and Rome). I also taking a Minor in Latin attached to my Classical Studies degree. Pretty weird combination, I know, but the Medical Science is so I can get a job (hopefully to become a doctor if I get into medschool) and the Classics is because I enjoy history of all sorts.
On that note of enjoying history, another passion of mine is Scottish history (being of Scottish decent). By this I don’t just mean the Scottish Wars of Independence, as most people know about from Braveheart, but Im talking all the way back to when we were known as the Caledonii, then the Picts, and finally the Kingdom of Alba under the great Kenneth MacAlpine! But I digress. In short, I like, and have a decent knowledge of, all types of history; be it Greek, Roman, Medieval, or the World Wars.
Other interests of mine include politics, rhetoric, and of course all the typically nerdy things that Im sure everyone who plays Ogame likes and can be readily defined by movies/tv shows I like such as Star Wars, Firefly/Serenity, Stargate SG-1, and of course Lord of the Rings. The last one, though not Sc-Fi, is by far my favourite. I am a HUGE Tolkien fan (having read not only the series, but also the Silmarillion, Unfinished tales, and non-Middle Earth-canonical things of his like “Sigurd and Gudrun” and even his poetry). This leads into another passion of mine that developed because of Tolkien and that is linguistics. I am auditing a few courses on linguistics and the development of language right now and I love every minute of it. An odd goal of mine is to one day invent a language as Tolkien did so many times in his novels.
So in short, if you ever want to talk with me about any of the above topics, ill be more than happy to oblige!
So to finish off, I’ll discuss my past Ogame experience. I was introduced to the game many years ago (about 8 years ago I reckon) by a friend in highschool and his brother. The three of us played in an alliance together (run by the brother) reaching Top20 status in the older universes when they were still relatively young and we were, for all intents of purposes, still noobs ourselves. After getting a feel for the game under the guidance of my friend's brother, I wanted to branch out and so for almost a year I began starting to play on almost every new universe that was created: sometimes trying to lead alliances, sometimes trying to take over already made alliances, and sometimes just playing by myself. This branching, though gave me valuable experience, was however the downfall to my Ogame career. I was playing so many universes at once, and it was so time consuming (as I was a fleeter in most cases) that I quit cold turkey altogether. After a couple years hiatus from the game I returned on and off, but never in more than one universe at a time. It was at this point I began experimenting with creating things like a universal United Nations; banding many alliances together for the common good. It was going particularly well on one universe (42 I think it was) but then I was hit with university exams in 1st year and had to quit again. But now I return to you, a many year veteran, leader of many past alliances, federations, and the like, and now (able to manage university and Ogame together) I intend to make this alliance the best! Terra Foedus gu bràth!!!
And that pretty much sums up me, your leader. Hope I didn’t scare anyone off too much!

Re: Britton: Get to know your Leader
Thanks Britton for sharing with us your OGame experience and also personal stuff, it's nice to know who's leading us, I'm always curious what kind if persons are behing names.. And judging only by you player name I had already figured it out that you like history. At least a bit. And I like that, because I'm also a very passionate on history.
Tell me, if you take Classical Studies, do you study there "Ad urbe condica" by Titus Livius? It's one of my favorites (well, I know that the speeches in the book are made up by him, but I still enjoy them). And what about Anthony Beevor's Stalingrad and Berlin The Downfall 1945? Do you think he's exaggerating with those numbers, with his descriptions? Especially on the russian invasion in Oriental Prussia some say he's making it up..
And back to the game, I have a suggestion; maybe I mentioned it before, but I want to post it here: for all the fleeters, everybody that at some point think they need to combine their forces to crash a profitable turtle, I think that a conversation always open on a specialized chat like Skype is better than the chat on the forum. I mean no disrespect, but I'm not and as I notice nobody is frequently on it. And there is a simple reason: I have to log in only for the game, and to check it only for the game.. instead, I have Skype almost 17/24 on, and everybody that uses it can be on. even if you don't use it, maybe you have messenger or anything else, installing it and setting it to log on on windows start-up is infinitely more simple. And even if you are offline, when you log in you can read all the conversation that took place in your absence. I can continue writing arguments, but maybe it's enough for now. If it's a good idea, it will speak for itself
Happy fleeting, happy mining peeps,
Leonard

Re: Britton: Get to know your Leader
About the Skype idea, it is for anybody who really can do it, personally I can because I'm a programmer so I'm always on, even at work, and I don't play any other online game. Sure not everybody can or wants.
So if anybody, or a small group will do it, it will be nice, if not, that's fine too

Re: Britton: Get to know your Leader
Heya, i'm a pretty experienced ogamer too and in a similar situation to you I had a few friends at school who played so a group of us (10 or so people) set up an alliance in Universe 2 and we played there for about 2-3 years or so, myself I have played in other universes too using the same name and occasionally under the alias The Grim Reaper, it's good to see that there is a few experienced people in the alliance as it certainly helps. As for "real life" lol I finished university over the summer and graduated with a 2.1 or upper second or whatever you want to call it after studying Biomedical Science. I was looking at doing medicine but that may wait a while as I need to work and get some money first lol.
I too quit for a few years and only just started up in this universe over the summer with a few friends from university, it's good to hear about people though rather than just have an online name to go by

Re: Britton: Get to know your Leader
Hey, i started ogame about 6 years in universe 93 if memory serves, after climbing the ranks of a few small alliances i decided to found my own alliance T.A after being banned until 2035 (lol at GO's) after being accused falsely of multi-accounting i quit the game for several years and picked the game back up last year in Andromeda (am i the only one noticing the names of the universes are all from greek history/mythology) where i founded the alliance SPQR and quickly gained many allies and climbed the high scores after joining a few different universes i decided i was stretched too thin and decided to focus on Kassiopeia.
on a more personal note i am currently doing an NVQ in vehicle mechanics, i am also interested in ancient history but was denied the chance to study classic civilization at college and had to settle for psychology and business studies, other than playing ogame i enjoy games such as Rome total war and other strategy based games, i have also been doing archery training for some time and am looking into doing night classes in Latin as i am fascinated by ancient Rome.
Just a quick background:
i am 18, (male) and live in Durham, England
